Crowdfunding! Unless you’re sequestered lakeside without internet you’re likely seeing posts about crowdfunding everywhere. And with Kickstarter about to launch in Canada supposedly this summer, TMCRK’s July spotlight will be on the how-to’s & best practices of crowdfunding.
First, it’s an absolute treat for TMCRK to launch a guest-authored Case Study on the mega-successful Lizzie Bennet Diaries DVD & More Kickstarter Campaign by our friend, compadre in the Toronto Transmedia 101 meet-up, & all-round transmedia dynamo, Carrie Cutforth-Young. You can find it in our Case Studies.
Next, If you haven’t had a thorough peruse of the following, here’s a stroll through resources already on the web. Grab a coffee & get ready to read & take notes!
The CMF has now launched an extremely useful micro-site on Crowdfunding giving you Facts & Stats, Best Practices, Case Studies, Regulatory Updates & a Crowdfunding Directory. And (how fantastic) as a Canadian site, these resources are bilingual [FR here].
Over on the CMF’s Trendscape Blog (are you following this? do!), Antoine van Eetvelde’s July 9th post on Kickstarter’s imminent launch in Canada this summer offers pointers and projections, including essential reading in the CMF’s ‘legal considerations for Canadians using Kickstarter’ and the likelihood that ‘Based on the UK precedent, we can assume Canada-based projects will be accessible on kickstarter.com directly.’
We’d also recommend a Kickstarter for Filmmakers book by Torontonian James Cooper. We were lucky enough to have James Cooper share his experience & insights at our sister organization, Transmedia 101’s June meet up. James has got terrific insights on funding numbers, timelines, strategies & more & he’s a funny guy.
We have more resources we’ll be adding in our month-long spotlight on crowd funding. And if you have looked at our Case Study on the Australian transmedia project, Patient 0, check it out. Stay tuned, say hi, see you at the next TM101 meet-up & online
